August 16, 2012 — Register for the 2012 Women Build Luncheon!

It’s that time again — register for the 2012 Women Build Luncheon! You can register online right here. It’s October 12 starting at 11:30 a.m. at Maceli’s in downtown Lawrence. Tickets are $40 and include lunch and tons of fun! There will be a live auction for attendees to build on pieces of the house (like nails, the roof, etc.) There will also be a silent auction of all of our centerpieces, which will be pink hard hats filled with wares from local businesses.

NEW THIS YEAR! Downtown Lawrence, Inc.’s Girls’ Night Out will benefit Women Build! On October 11, you pay just $20 for 20% off in more than 20 stores and restaurants downtown! Make it a Women Build week and spend time shopping on Thursday and having lunch with us on Friday. It will be a fun few days! You can register for Girls’ Night Downtown at the same time you sign up for the luncheon!

Hope to see you at both!

June 18, 2012 — Hammertini time!

July — it’s hot and humid. Why not go grab a drink with some girlfriends to cool off and chat? Well, when you do, make sure you head to The Eldridge in downtown Lawrence or The Oread on the hill for a HAMMERTINI! That’s right — Women Build has its own martini. And during the entire month of July, for each martini sold, Women Build will get $3.00. What’s better than grabbing a drink AND helping Women Build at the same time? Check out the flyer on our blog for all the details, including what’s in our lovely pink drink.

Bottoms up!

June 14, 2012 — Why I Women Build Part 1

Editor’s Note: Women serving on the Women Build Luncheon committee will share their reasons behind getting involved with Lawrence Habitat and Women Build. This week, Whitney Schneider shares her story.

I wanted to be a part of Habitat for Humanity Women Build Luncheon Committee for many reasons.  To start, I come from a very small town in southwest Kansas that has a very strong sense of community.  That “community” is a feeling I lost when I moved away.  However, I have found it once again in Lawrence and through Habitat for Humanity.  The Women Build project is also especially dear to me because I grew up with a single mother.  Looking back, I have such appreciation for my mother’s perseverance. She supported our family during hard times.  She didn’t do it all on her own and that’s why I feel this is my opportunity to give back Lawrence, which has become “my” community.  And as a full time personal trainer, it is my job and my passion to motivate and empower individuals to achieve their goals.  Motivating others to help one another is now my mission as a member of the Women Build Luncheon Committee.  – Whitney Schneider

June 5, 2012 — First meeting of the minds

Today, our Women Build luncheon committee met for the first time. We all spent time to getting to know each other and we’ve got another strong group of women planning the event again this year. We covered a lot of topics and are really excited about what we have in store. In the coming weeks, each committee member will share her story as to why she got involved with Women Build and what it means to her, so stay tuned for those! We’ve got some new things planned, but will keep those a secret for now. We also know who we will be building for, so keep checking this blog for the latest on the newest members of the Habitat and Women Build family. Don’t forget — our second annual luncheon October 12 at Maceli’s! And we’re looking for TONS of volunteers. Let us know if you want to help out with this one-of-a-kind event!
