Hameed Yusuf putting in some sweat equity.

Meet our newest partner family -- the Yusufs

Hameed Yusuf left his wife and five young children in Nigeria and moved to the U.S. in 2003. He wanted more opportunities and the hope of a better life. A friend had told him about a friendly town in the Midwest called Lawrence. Hameed’s settled in Lawrence with hope and determination. A year later, his family joined him in Kansas.

Today, Hameed works as a machine operator at Berry Plastics. His wife, Asikat Hameed, performs general duty tasks at Kinedyne Corp. All five of their children are currently full-time students. Their oldest son, Kazeem, is studying at Ottawa University. Rasheedat, their daughter, is working toward her nursing degree at Neosho County Community College. Their twins, Taiwo and Kehinde, are taking classes at KU and Johnson County Community College. Their youngest daughter, Mutiyat, is getting ready to graduate from Lawrence High.

Yusuf and his family say they are very grateful to be chosen to partner with Lawrence Habitat for Humanity. They’ve been waiting patiently to build their home for the past three years. Yusuf, a man of faith, says he is extremely thankful for the opportunity to own a home and for all the supporters of the organization.

The Yusuf house will be located at 1933 Maple Lane.

The nail drive ceremony will be May 26, 2012, at 9 a.m.
