Unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone.​

 

Locally, almost half (49%) of all renters and one in four homeowners can't afford their housing costs. The lowest-income households are the most likely to be severely cost burdened, but even moderate-income earners in Lawrence struggle to find affordable housing. When faced with rising costs, our families must make tough choices, and often they are choosing between housing and necessities, like medicine and food.

Every day, our goal at Lawrence Habitat is simple – to build and repair affordable housing in partnership with families in our community. We strive for a community where everyone has a safe place to call home, where the best memories and happiest moments can happen. Building a house is more expensive than it’s ever been.​ The difference between the mortgage payment and the growing cost of building a home has substantially increased, and this is where we need your support.​
