The Asuku Family moved to Lawrence from Nigeria in 2012. Prior to moving to the U.S., Adamu worked for the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria for 21 years, where he met leaders including President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalyn, two of Habitat for Humanity’s biggest supporters.

Now, Adamu works for C-Hawkk and Billy is a CNA at Pioneer Ridge. Their children are very involved in the community and school activities.

The Asuku’s heard about Habitat from another Habitat homeowner, and decided to apply.

“It means a lot to us,” Adamu said. “Even though it will take a while to pay for it, we will know it is our home. We knew what homeownership was like in Nigeria, and we want to have that here, too.”

Lawrence Habitat hopes to begin construction on their 88th home in late June, 2015.

This home is being built in partnership with Lawrence Habitat’s covenant churches¬†through the Building on Faith program.

Lawrence Habitat is still raising the funds to build a safe, decent and affordable home for the Asuku’s home.

We need your help – your donation will go directly into helping the Asukus get closer to achieving their dream of homeownership in Lawrence, KS.
