Volunteer Laura Burton

Stop in the Habitat office almost any Wednesday and you will find Laura Burton busy entering data, sending "Thank You" letters to donors, or handling a variety of other administrative tasks to keep the office running smoothly. Laura was working part time in a flower shop about a year ago when she learned about Habitat's Women Build and wondered how she could help. It didn't take long to discover how valuable she could be in the office, and she's been a dedicated volunteer ever since.
Laura started her career as a graphic artist, but also worked as a florist in college. After about ten years in graphic design she worked for Trapp & Company for a few years in Kansas City. Laura has since formed her own floral business, Dahlia, where she specializes in events and weddings using locally grown flowers at affordable rates. She is also a substitute teacher in the Lawrence School District for kindergarten through high school. With all of these responsibilities, she somehow finds time to enjoy two favorite hobbies: gardening and cooking.
Laura has three adult children: a daughter who lives in Kansas City, a son who lives in Pittsburg KS, and a daughter who lives in Memphis. She also has a son who is in first grade at Pinckney and has enjoyed being involved in his school activities over the last year or so.
Laura is talented and creative, and Habitat is fortunate to have her as part of the team!
